  • Mitsubishi Motors South Africa secured a regional award thanks to a strong performance by local dealers.

Johannesburg – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has awarded dealers and selected dealership staff for strong performances across a variety of dealership roles.

The Mitsubishi Dealer of the Year awards recognise excellence across the brands dealerships and follow a comprehensive and ongoing evaluation process that measures a wide variety of aspects of dealer performance.

This includes factors such as sales volumes, the meeting of sales targets, parts sales, after sales business excellence and customer satisfaction.

“Our dealers are the lifeblood of our brand and many of them have been with us through challenging and prosperous times, continuing to represent the brand with passion and professionalism. We truly value the contribution that our dealer partners and their staff make to the ongoing growth of the exciting Mitsubishi Motors brand in South Africa,” says Francois Gultig (General Manager, Sales and Operations) at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.

Collectively these efforts were recognised when Mitsubishi Motors South Africa was presented with the Top Performer award in the After Sales – Customer Experience category at the brands annual global after sales conference in Thailand. The award measures service excellence in comparison to that of dealers in other regions and against local competitors by way of a KANTAR Competitive Base CSI Program. This program measures performance by tracking customer satisfaction across the whole after sales service journey over a six-month period annually.

“In recent years Mitsubishi Motors SA have prioritised the relationship with our dealers by giving them the support they need to perform at their best. It gives us great pleasure to recognise the best performing dealers and sales executives as well as after sales role players that do their best day in and day out as the customer facing representatives of the Mitsubishi brand,” added Steven Terblans (General Manager Aftersales at Mitsubishi Motors SA).

Facelifted Mitsubishi Pajero Sport levels up with more features, an exciting new look for the same price

Facelifted Mitsubishi Pajero Sport levels up with more features, an exciting new look for the same price

  • The updated Mitsubishi Pajero Sport gains an updated dynamic shield front grille, redesigned under garnishes and new 18-inch wheels.
  • The interior has been updated with a new 8-inch fully digital driver display and a redesigned steering wheel.
  • Safety and convenience have been bolstered with the addition of the Ultrasonic Mis-acceleration System and a Multi Around Monitor.

JOHANNESBURG – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has treated the much respected Pajero Sport to a significant facelift that includes an enhanced design, improved technology and additional safety features in line with modern customer requirements. These updates come without a change in pricing, further bolstering the value for money proposition of the Pajero Sport.

The facelifted Pajero Sport continues Mitsubishi Motors South Africa’s strategic product recalibration that commenced with the successful recent launch of the Next-Gen Triton, which retained its price positioning despite major platform upgrades as well as the Outlander Sport, which replaced the ASX at the same price point.

“The latest iteration of Pajero Sport is much more than a facelift, it’s further proof of how we’re recalibrating our entire range in sync with the ever-evolving automotive landscape. In an extremely price sensitive market, we are meeting customer expectations by delivering more value for money whilst entrenching our commitment to reliability, intelligent engineering and no-nonsense quality,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager Marketing for Mitsubishi Motor South Africa (MMSA).

A refreshed exterior

The Pajero Sport continues to offer an unmistakable SUV character that is accentuated by strong, flowing lines and rugged, high-quality durable finishes.

The latest design evolution includes an updated dynamic shield front grille that offers a more assertive presence, and which compliments the redesigned front and rear under garnishes. The updated Mitsubishi Pajero Sport rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels, featuring a modern SUV design.

A remastered cockpit

The interior features numerous updates including a new eight-inch fully digital driver display. A redesigned steering wheel offers a more modern and tactile driving feel while still incorporating steering wheel controls. A new black ceiling headliner ensures an overall more premium cabin aesthetic.

The interior of all models continues to represent comfort and luxury thanks to standard specification highlights that include black leather seats, dual zone climate control with rear vents and Mitsubishi’s advanced smartphone-link display audio (SDA) connected to a large eight-inch touchscreen, a sunroof, remote control connectivity, an electronic tailgate and a keyless operating system.

A drivetrain with a proven track record

All Mitsubishi Pajero Sport models are powered by the tried and tested Mitsubishi MIVEC 2.4-litre, four-cylinder, intercooled, turbodiesel engine. This powerplant offers 133kW and 430Nm and drives the wheels through an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission. In practice this drivetrain offers smooth acceleration and low-rpm, high-speed cruising that enhances driving efficiency.

Making the Pajero Sport a true Pajero is Mitsubishi’s renowned Super Select 4WD-II system. Paired with the ladder frame chassis on 4×4 derivatives it ensures consistent ability across challenging conditions and rugged terrain. Four selectable off-road functions include 2H, 4H, 4HLc (4WD High range with centre diff locked) and 4LLc (4WD Low range with centre diff locked).

Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand or Rock modes tailor engine output, transmission settings and braking according to the conditions underfoot, reinforcing the model’s strong off-road pedigree.

Additional safety and convenience

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has always offered the safety needed for daily family chores or weekend adventures and these credentials have been further bolstered by the latest smart technology. Additions include the Ultrasonic Mis-acceleration Mitigation System (UMS) that ensures added safety in tight spaces by preventing accidental acceleration at low speeds. A Multi Around Monitor has also been added, ensuring improved visibility when parking and manoeuvring.

The inherent safety of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport range is built on the foundation of the Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety) body construction and bolstered by seven airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Active safety features include active stability and traction control (ASTC), an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and an emergency brake assist system (BAS).

The safety package is rounded off by hill-start assist (HAS), trailer stability assist, auto levelling dusk-sensing LED headlights, front foglamps, daytime running lights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, rear park distance control, a rear-view camera and hill descent control which takes the fuss out of descending steep off-road descents.

A beefed-up value proposition

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is unique, it combines the legendary off-road ability, for which the Pajero nameplate is renowned, with family friendly functionality. The latest round of updates accentuates those qualities while further bolstering its incredible value for money proposition.

“All these enhancements come with no change to the selling price of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, ensuring that this popular enthusiasts model remains an excellent choice in the adventure SUV category, while representing unquestionable value for money,” concludes Allison.

A three-model range

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport range now consists of three derivatives that are positioned to deliver maximum value to customers without compromising on its unrivalled quality and legendary off-road DNA.

Pricing

All Mitsubishi Pajero Sport models are sold with a three-year/100 000 km manufacturer’s warranty, a five-year/90 000 km service plan and five-year roadside assistance. Service intervals are set at every 10 000 km.

Mitsubishi Motors SA awarded as top performer in after sales

Mitsubishi motors sa awarded as top performer in after sales

  • Mitsubishi Motors SA was awarded as the regions best performing distributor in the After Sales – Customer Experience category.
  • A consistently high after sales performance has resulted in a third consecutive award in this category.
  • The survey measures a variety of customer engagements in the after sales journey.

Thailand – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa was presented with the Top Performer award in the After Sales – Customer Experience category at the brands recent annual global after sales business excellence awards ceremony in Thailand. The award measures service excellence in comparison to that of dealers in other regions.

Over the past five years Mitsubishi Middle East and Africa has challenged their distributors to achieve the top three status in their respective country when measured against the top competitor brands in their respective markets.

The KANTAR Competitive Base CSI Program was launched to measure this performance by tracking customer satisfaction across the whole after sales service journey over a six-month period annually.

In addition to measuring performance, the programme is also designed to instil an impact-based customer experience action plan which positively influences the customer journey.

Mitsubishi Motors SA far exceeded the target of a top three. For the third consecutive year Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has secured the number one position in South Africa. MMSA are also the only country in the MMME region to accomplish this.

“This result and our consistent performance over the last three years is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the MMSA team as well as our entire dealer network, who continuously work hard at improving service levels and making each and every service experience memorable, during their interactions with our valued customers,” says Steven Terblans (General Manager Aftersales at Mitsubishi Motors SA).

Attributes measured include service initiation, service advisor, in-service experience, vehicle pick-up, service quality and digital aspect. An in-depth survey focusses on all the customer touch points under each of these attributes.

The comprehensively structured programme tracks improvement at each attribute level, with different weightings according to the importance of the attribute to the customer, which assists with isolating the brand effect.

“While this programme is a great way of measuring ourselves against our peers in different markets, more crucially it allows us to continually refine our service to our customers,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager Marketing for Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.

“Surveys and programmes like this are extremely valuable as they allow us to recognise our strengths, allowing us to maintain, invest and build on those characteristics. We are also always looking for ways to improve and the feedback received from this programme is vital in this journey as it gives us indirect feedback from our customers allowing us to identify areas where our service levels still need refining,” concludes Allison.

Mitsubishi Motors SA are in the midst of a complete range revitalisation. The Triton and Outlander were recently launched in SA and customers can look forward to exciting new model launches throughout the year, including the arrival of the much-anticipated Xpander Cross.

Excitement comes standard with the award-winning Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Excitement comes standard with the award-winning Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

  • Mitsubishi Motors SA are continuing their product rollout with the launch of the all-new Outlander Sport.
  • The Outlander Sport blends modern design with practicality and Japanese engineering.
  • Since its global reveal, the Outlander Sport has already racked up numerous international awards.

JOHANNESBURG – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa are expanding their compact SUV offering with the introduction of the all-new Outlander Sport.

The new Outlander Sport has been designed with a strong focus on the way that compact SUVs are used. The all-new model is ready to uplift the owner’s everyday life with its stylish yet robust, authentic SUV styling, as well as comfort and practicality.

The Outlander Sport also promises Mitsubishi’s best in-cabin experience ever, bolstered by a multimeter and avionics, four driving modes, active yaw control, ambient lighting and a large monolithic display paired with Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium.

“Following the recent launch of the next-gen Mitsubishi Triton, the Outlander Sport continues Mitsubishi’s extensive model roll out which is set to gain momentum in 2025,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

The entire vehicle design is based on Mitsubishi’s Silky & Solid concept and incorporates an exterior that is stylish yet powerful while retaining the authentic SUV design.

“The Outlander Sport is our answer to the popular compact SUV segment, and we believe that its stylish, contemporary  styling mixed with excellent comfort and practicality as well as a variety of class leading tech makes it a great addition to the local Mitsubishi line up. Mitsubishi aims to offer customers modern vehicles that suit the requirements of today’s customers while leveraging our legendary reputation of durability and real off-road pedigree,” says Allison.

The Outlander Sport offers a stylish contemporary design

The all-new Outlander Sport boasts a stylish contemporary design that has garnered this model numerous prestigious design awards including a 2024 iF Design award, a 2023 Good Design Award from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion as well as a VMARK Vietnam Design Award. In addition the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was recently named Best Compact SUV at ARABCOTY.

Upfront the Dynamic Shield front face has evolved in line with the design concept and now consists of left and right bumpers that protect the front grille. The front grille is three-dimensionally integrated to create a sporty front face with a sense of depth. LED daytime running lights combine an L-shape with slotted accents to emit light in an iconic T-shape, making the SUV instantly recognisable as a Mitsubishi, while emphasising the wide stance.

The upper portion of the body expresses an airiness thanks to a floating roof and a sleek surface that begins with the three-diamond emblem up front and flows along the side to the rear.

The lower part of the body adopts the solid and powerful proportions of an SUV, accentuated by muscular fender flares that express the agility of an athlete. Rich muscular surfaces combine with front and rear sculpted fender flares and character lines to express the strength and dynamism of the SUV. At the rear the same T-shape is adopted for the LED taillights, which contributes to a wide and stable look.

Sophisticated, cutting-edge interior

Similarly the interior is sophisticated with a cutting-edge feel, characterised by a modern design and the use of avant-garde materials while maximising the available space.

The instrument panel has been designed based on the Horizontal Axis concept. This ensures increased forward visibility allowing drivers to easily navigate rough terrain. The dynamic form of the instrument panel that runs all the way to the door trim creates an open, spacious area.

A large monolithic display panel integrates a 12.3-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system. With multi-widget function, the screen is divided into three sections allowing the display of various information on a single screen. GL and GLS models are fitted with an 8-inch version of this system.

While offering the freedom to customise the display with preferred content the three-tier display pays homage to the triple meter that was fitted to the legendary Pajero and offers information including altitude, tilt angle and direction.

Ahead of the driver an 8-inch digital driver display expresses a cutting-edge feel. This display offers a wide variety of content on a large screen. When the driver switches drive modes, a graphic indicating the selected mode is shown in the centre of the display, making it easy to intuitively select the drive mode. GL and GLS models feature a 4.2-inch multi-information display.

Contrary to its body size the Outlander Sport offers a roomy interior space that enables all passengers to relax while on board and versatile storage spaces are scattered throughout the cabin. Upfront a top-class seating space including a spacious shoulder area has been secured to enhance comfort. Seats provide both support and comfort, preventing lateral body movement in situations such as lane changes and when travelling on rough roads, while enabling passengers to relax comfortably even in traffic jams.

In the rear, designers paid careful attention to creating a space that allows a comfortable ride even when carrying three passengers. The rear seats boast best in class legroom. In addition, with eight-levels of reclining adjustment, the seats accommodate a wide range of needs, including angles that allow passengers to relax or angles that maximise cargo carrying capacity.

For the first time in a Mitsubishi, a melange fabric has been used for the padding of the instrument panel, providing a sense of enclosure by the continuous coverage up to the door trim. This highly practical fabric exudes modernity and sophistication creating a comfortable space in which passengers can relax as if they are in their own living room. This innovative material is made up of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic resins which resist dirt adhesion, and which also makes it easy to clean as dirty simply wipes away.

Additional innovative features include Mitsubishi Motors’ first driving score function providing real world driver feedback, developed in conjunction with Hiroshi Masuoak, a former two-time Dakar Rally champion. Weblink allows users to connect their smartphone and project applications onto the large display.

Passenger comfort is ensured by dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a rear air vent while nanoe X removes odours and improves interior air quality. A console tray with wireless chargers and Type-A and Type-C USB ports facilitate charging of various mobile devices. A hands-free power tailgate assists with easier loading of bulky items.

A hi-fi experience courtesy of Yamaha

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Exceed is equipped with Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium, which was developed in collaboration with the Yamaha Corporation. The class leading system includes eight speakers, with front tweeters on the A-pillars, woofers in the front doors and coaxial two-way speakers in the rear doors. Volume and sound quality are adjusted according to vehicle speed and offers passengers well defined mids and highs along with dynamic bass. The system also offers four sound types that can be selected according to musical taste and mood – Lively, Signature, Powerful and Relaxing.

A frugal yet powerful drivetrain

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is powered by a proven 1.5-litre DOHC 16-valve MIVEC engine offering 77kW at 6 000rpm and 141Nm at 4 000rpm. This powerplant is paired to a high-efficiency CVT offering low fuel consumption and quietness.

Engineering excellence included

The Outlander Sport is offered as a two-wheel drive but leverages Mitsubishi’s expertise with regards to off-road pedigree, to achieve excellent handling for an SUV. This is bolstered by four drive modes, including Normal, Wet, Gravel and Mud which allow the vehicle to seamlessly handle a variety of road conditions. The integration of Active Yaw Control adjusts drive between the wheels to improve controllability, traction control, engine control and power steering control.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport rides on MacPherson strut suspension upfront along with a torsion beam set up at the rear and features discs brakes all round. Well-tuned suspension has been specifically developed for ASEAN roads, making it well suited to South African conditions.

Class leading ground clearance of 222mm ensures that the Outlander Sport is able to traverse even the roughest roads with confidence. Approach and departure angles of 21.0 degrees and 30.5 degrees respectively reinforce its outdoor DNA.

Advanced safety features

Advanced safety equipment includes Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. All models feature driver and passenger airbags as well as seat mounted side airbags. Aspire and Exceed models add a side curtain airbag to the suite.

Model offering

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will be offered with one engine and transmission option and four well-equipped specification grades.

GL and GLS models are characterised by black PVC with black stitching or a fabric grey interior with grey accents and ride on 17-inch wheels.

Aspire models are fitted with the melange fabric with mocha stitching or synthetic leather with mocha accents while additional specification includes 18-inch wheels and a drive mode selector with four modes.

  • The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton features a number of characteristics that make it a worthy finalist.
  • The Mitsubishi Triton will compete for honours in the bakkie category of the competitions as well as the overall COTY title.

JOHANNESBURG – The South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) has announced its list of finalists for the 2025 Car of the Year (COTY) competition, sponsored by Old Mutual Insure and the recently launched Mitsubishi Triton has been included on that list.

During 2024 a total of 70 brand new models were launched in South Africa comprising of 243 derivatives. Out of these introductions 20 models have been included in the list of finalists. These models will compete for overall honours in their respective categories as well as the 2025 Car of the Year title.

Although the past format of COTY awarded a single model, in recent years, the formation of categories in addition to an overall winner, has seen the competition achieve greater relevance in the eyes of the public.

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton will compete in the 4×4 and bakkie categories as well as for the overall 2025 Car of the Year title.

Following the announcement of the COTY 2025 finalists, a rigorous, two-day testing process will be undertaken by the Jury, in order to score the contenders and determine category winners and the overall 2025 SA Car of the Year title.

“The South African bakkie market is unique and highly competitive due to the fact that for South Africans bakkies fill multiple roles, from a workhorse to a daily driver or a family leisure vehicle. The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is able to perfectly fulfil all these roles, and I believe that is something that will count in its favour when the judging commences,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton features a number of characteristics that make it a worthy finalist. This includes a combination of unique styling, a roomy interior and excellent off-road ability. The Triton also represents excellent value for money, thanks to its competitive pricing and high-level of standard specification. In addition Mitsubishi’s Diamond Advantage Warranty which comprises a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty as well as a five-year/90 000km service plan adds to overall peace of mind and value for money.

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is no stranger to the winner’s circle. Since making its global debut a year ago the sixth generation Mitsubishi Triton has received a variety of prestigious awards including the special award at the RJC Car of the Year for 2025 run by the Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC), an iF Design Award 2024 in the product design discipline and the 2023 Good Design Award presented by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion amongst a host of others.

Shortly after its launch in South Africa late last year the Mitsubishi Triton scooped its first local accolade when it was awarded the Bakkie of the Year award at the TopGear South Africa Awards.

“The SAGMJ COTY is one of the most prestigious automotive awards in the country as new vehicles are voted for and then stringently judged by journalists representing a wide variety of automotive publications. Being nominated as a finalist is a great accolade and we are confident that the Next-Gen Triton will suitably impress judges during the upcoming testing days,” concludes Allison.

The Triton was also recognised for its robust form that harmonizes with the bold Dynamic Shield front-end design, as well as its well-balanced proportions despite being a double cab.

Based on the “Beast Mode” design concept, the all-new Triton embodies the toughness and power expected of a pickup truck. It boasts an imposing look, expressing robustness as well as agility. Following the Mitsubishi Touch approach, the steering wheel, grips and door handles are designed with a focus on grip comfort and sturdiness.

The Triton is a one-ton pickup bakkie that traces its roots back to the Forte, originally released in 1978. Since then, about 5.7 million units have been produced over five generations and sold in approximately 150 countries around the world, making it Mitsubishi Motors’ global strategic model.

With a diverse model range, exclusive locally tailored editions, and the strongest warranty in its class, the Next-Gen Triton is ready to take on any challenge with confidence. Challenge Accepted.

A legacy of toughness

Mitsubishi’s Triton has long been a favourite among South African drivers, a reputation built on the brand’s heritage and the success of the iconic Colt. Since then, the Triton has continued to grow and evolve, offering a balance of rugged performance, cutting-edge design, and modern technology. The Next-Gen Triton marks a new chapter in this legacy, with advancements in comfort, performance, safety, and versatility.

“The South African bakkie market is an extremely competitive environment but we believe that the Next-Gen Triton not only accepts this challenge but also raises the bar with a range of models that allow drivers to define their own adventure. The Next-Gen Triton range offers tailored special editions and the strongest warranty in class as it invites South Africans to embrace the journey ahead,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

Evolved to meet the needs of modern day bakkie owners

Now in its sixth generation, the Next-Gen Triton has been completely redesigned from the ground up. All elements including the interior and exterior design as well as the chassis, ladder frame and engine have been completely reimagined.

With a reputation for toughness to live up to it has evolved to meet the needs of the modern day bakkie owner.

Award winner

Since making its global debut a year ago the Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton has received a variety of prestigious awards including a special award at the RJC Car of the Year for 2025 run by the Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC), an iF Design Award 2024 in the product design discipline and the 2023 Good Design Award presented by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion amongst a host of others.

Rugged design

Based on the Beast Mode design concept, the Next-Gen Triton combines the Mitsubishi Motors design with the toughness and strength expected of a bakkie, while at the same time demonstrating an imposing stance with ruggedness and agility.

The frontal design incorporates the Dynamic Shield which is now accentuated by a robust, three-dimensional front grille, fenders and a bumper that emphasise this form. The daytime running lights feature three L-shaped LED lights which resemble the sharp gaze of a hawk, which in combination with the three-dimensional three-light headlights below them, gives the Next-Gen Triton a commanding presence.

The horizontally themed body sides are composed of large, solid surfaces which emphasise the robust doors, while contrasting with the sharply overhanging fender panels, in that way emphasising stability and toughness. The cabin shape and rear spoiler have been designed with optimum aerodynamic efficiency in mind.

At the rear T-shaped taillights on both sides emphasise width while also enforcingthe sturdy design.

Spacious, high-quality interior

The interior is designed for comfort, with advanced technology and a thoughtfully crafted space that enhances the ability to enjoy the ride, no matter where the journey takes you.

A spacious, refined cabin with high-quality materials and advanced noise-reduction technology creates a comfortable driving experience, whether you’re navigating city streets or open trails.

The interior features a robust, horizontally themed instrument panel that allows drivers to easily see changes in the position of the vehicle while driving. A variety of geometric shapes and metallic elements are in place to create a high-contrast, modern space.

An eight-inch infotainment system is positioned at eye level for ease of use and features smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and an easy-to-read display. Ahead of the driver is a seven-inch multi-information display that offers all the necessary information at a glance and allows drivers to easily understand the vehicle’s status.

Designers paid particular attention to the appearance of the display and gauges which make use of contrast and switches that feature the optimum level of sensitivity. The steering wheel, grips and door handles have all been designed based on an approach called Mitsubishi Touch, with a focus on grip comfort and sturdiness.

The centre console features cup holders that can accommodate two large cups while the console box can hold four 600ml plastic bottles.

The Next-Gen Triton is approximately 50mm wider than the previous Triton, which translates into excellent shoulder room. Front seat adjustment range in all models is also segment leading. Rear seats in double cab models offer class leading shoulder and knee room by a significant margin, thanks in part to front seat backs that were designed with this in mind.

The front seats have been designed to provide firm lower back support while the shoulder areas provide ease of movement with an open shape, which helps to reduce driver fatigue. The hip point has also been moved up by 20mm with a more upright posture adopted to improve visibility. Ingress and egress have been improved thanks to a more vertical A-pillar which also widens the door openings.

First class safety

The Next-Gen Triton has also evolved in terms of its safety equipment. Central to this is the Super Select II system with Active Yaw Control, developed with expertise from Mitsubishi’s Rally history and first seen in the Lancer Evolution 10, it ensures excellent traction and superior stability and handling on all surface types.

Active Yaw Control improves cornering performance by applying light braking to the inside front wheel when cornering. This works by applying the brake to a spinning wheel and distributing the driving torque to wheels gripping the road surface, improving safety on slippery surfaces while also providing a sporty driving experience.

The Next-Gen Triton is fitted with a wide variety of meaningful safety features tailored for the South African market and conditions. Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC) which improves stability on winding roads is standard on all models. Hill Descent Control (HDC) maintains a set speed on downhill slopes to enable driving with confidence without the need for the driver to apply the brakes and Hill Start Assist (HSA), prevents roll-back during hill starts.

All Mitsubishi Triton models are built with the inherent safety that the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution Body Construction (RISE) offers while also incorporating side-impact protection bars.

Passive safety includes driver and passenger airbags on single cab models. Double cab GL models are equipped with driver, driver knee and passenger airbags while all other derivatives add front, side and curtain front and rear airbags in addition.

All-new turbodiesel engine

A newly developed 4N16 DI-DC engine utilises a variable geometry turbocharger to achieve improved output and improved environmental performance as well as powerful acceleration and responsiveness thanks impressive power and torque figures of 135kW at 3 500rpm and 430Nm between 2 250 and 2 500rpm.

This engine is paired to either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission with shift by wire technology.

GL models are fitted with 2.4-litre DI-DC engine that offers 81kW at 4000rpm and 200Nm between 1000 and 3750rpm and which is paired to a five-speed manual transmission.

New chassis and suspension

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton rides on an all-new chassis frame that is the backbone to its improved overall performance. High tensile materials absorb road noise and vibrations for a comfortable and safe driving experience that minimises stress and fatigue. The new chassis is also key to improved stability, handling and enhanced durability.

High rider 2WD and 4WD models also feature completely redesigned front and rear suspension systems. The high mount double wishbone front suspension has been updated with a 20mm longer suspension rebound stroke compared to its predecessor as well as a larger stabiliser bar, ensuring better control on rough road surfaces.

The rear leaf spring setup has been retained but has been redesigned to reduce weight and ensure better ride quality. Improvements include updated rubber components and beefier shock absorbers. Thanks to the increased strength of each leaf spring a weight reduction was achieved without sacrificing suspension capability.

Legendary 4×4 status amplified

The Mitsubishi Triton has always been renowned for its off-road ability and key to this is the brands proprietary Super Select 4WD system that was forged from successes at the legendary Dakar Rally.

Super Select 4WD-II is Mitsubishi Motors’ unique, cutting-edge 4WD technology that provides outstanding all-terrain performance both on-road and off-road. Drivers can choose from four different modes, selected via a dial selector to match the various road conditions. A unique feature is that 4H can be selected while driving at speeds of up to 100km/h.

2H is perfect for situations that require smooth handling and lower fuel consumption. 4H offers a confident drive both on and off road but the biggest benefit is on slippery surfaces such as gravel as the centre differential distributes driving force at a ratio of 40% to the front and 60% to the rear.

In 4HLc the Triton is in four-wheel drive and the centre diff is locked ensuring traction in rough conditions such as snow, sand and dirt.

4LLc or low range, four-wheel drive, with the centre diff locked ensures capability in unstable road conditions such as mud or uneven surfaces.

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is now fitted with seven drive modes with all-wheel control technologies, compared to the four modes that were previously offered. Each drive mode has been finely tuned through extensive testing to achieve outstanding driving performance for each type of road surface. Modes include Normal and Eco as well as Gravel and Snow when in 4H and Mud and Sand when in 4HLc and Rock in 4LLc.

Ready to work

Across the model range the Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton strikes a great balance between lifestyle and commercial use, key to this is a larger load bin and a 3.5-ton towing capacity.

The cargo bed height has been lowered by 45mm to 820mm compared to the previous model and the upper surface area of the bumper corner has been enlarged and reinforced with a frame to be used as a foot hold for improved practicality.

Well-equipped model range

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is being launched with the widest range of models ever, with 11 derivatives which include 4×2 and 4×4 options as well as commercial focused variants and premium lifestyle editions, ensuring that there is a Triton for every need.

Kicking off the local double cab range is the Triton GL 4WD manual that rides on 16-inch alloy steel wheels, featuring a rear tailgate lock and black side steps. Interior comfort and convenience features include keyless entry, an eight-inch SDA, two-speakers, manual air-conditioning, a rear centre armrest, USB and accessory socket and a fabric seat material. Safety features include ABS and EBD, Isofix, a high-mounted stop lamp, immobiliser, central locking and a speed-sensing auto door lock.

Mitsubishi widens appeal of Outlander range with tech laden model offering

Mitsubishi widens appeal of Outlander range with tech laden model offering

  • Mitsubishi is expanding its recently launched Outlander model range to a total of five derivatives.
  • All Outlander models boast Mitsubishi’s legendary off-road ability thanks to the inclusion of the Super All-Wheel Control system across the whole range.
  • Pricing starts at a competitively priced R699 995 for the comprehensively equipped Mitsubishi Outlander GL.

JOHANNESBURG – Mitsubishi’s recently launched all-new Outlander, has quickly become a top seller for the brand in South Africa. The Outlander has found favour with local motorists who appreciate the modern design, heightened levels of quality, premium finishes, and an extremely comprehensive level of standard specification paired with the best in all-wheel drive technologies and convenient seating for seven occupants.

Mitsubishi South Africa is now expanding the Outlander offering at both ends of the pricing spectrum from two to a total of five derivatives with pricing now starting at a very competitive R699 995.

“The Outlander has impressed our local media too. Following numerous international accolades the Outlander was recently announced as a semi-finalist in the 2024 Car of the Year competition, hosted by the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) in the hotly contested Family category,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

The Outlander is the most thoughtfully engineered vehicle that Mitsubishi has ever developed and is based on an all-new platform that has allowed for the inclusion of a variety of new technologies, including the latest generation four-wheel drive systems, the ability to accept a hybrid drivetrain as well as quality improvements throughout.

The design, inspired by the Japanese product concept of I-Fu-Do-Do, is characterised by substantial horizontal proportions, which along with jet tail fin pillars, result in a bold, fixating presence.

Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield front design creates a substantial presence that is accentuated by LED front foglamps, LED sequential turn signals, and daytime running lights as well as a front skid plate, rear spoiler, and LED high-mounted brake light.

Under the bonnet

All derivatives are powered by the same 2.5-litre Duel VVT DOHC engine that utilises Direct Injection to produce an exceptional 135kW at 6 000rpm and 245Nm at 3 600rpm. This engine is paired with a simulated eight-speed CVT transmission that ensures effortless acceleration, smooth gear changes, and a refined driving experience. The power delivery experience can also be tailored via a variety of drive modes including Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud.

The transmission has been carefully programmed to keep the engine in the optimum range, ensuring excellent fuel efficiency and emissions, with a respectable combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 8,1 litres per 100km.

Off-road pedigree is maintained thanks to 210mm of ground clearance and Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) which uses intuitive sensors to maximise vehicle control, distributing power to all four wheels.

Modern interior and cutting-edge safety technology

The cabin is truly modern with high levels of comfort and luxury ensured by soft-touch surfaces and premium materials. This includes quilted leather door inserts, a black headliner, and pillars. The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel is tilt and telescopic adjustable and is home to cruise control buttons and paddle shifters.

A central feature of the interior is a 12,3-inch Digital Driver Display, this is complimented by either an eight-inch Smartphone link display or a nine-inch Smartphone-Link display with navigation, depending on the model chosen. All derivatives feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring capability.

Built around Mitsubishi Motor’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure, the Outlander features ultra-high tensile strength steel around the passenger compartment, which is further bolstered by an impact-absorbing front body structure and high-durability, low-deformation passenger compartment structure. All derivatives are fitted with seven airbags, ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Emergency Stop signal system, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control as well as Active Stability and Traction Control.

Five models to choose from

As an entry point into the range, the GL offers a comprehensive level of standard specification with highlights that include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED day running lights, rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, heated door mirrors, heated seats, synthetic leather with suede combination, push start button, cruise control, ESS (Emergency Stop System), a seven-inch driver display and an eight-inch SDA with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

GLS models build on this offering with the addition of 20-inch alloy wheels, a digital speedometer, a 12,3-inch digital driver display, a powered lift tailgate, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, keyless operation system, front rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights with dusk sensor, headlight washer, front LED side turn signals and front LED fog lamps, three-zone automatic climate control (front dual-zone) and a rear USB port.

The GLS Plus features the same comprehensive specification offering with the addition of a Multi Around Monitor.

Aspire derivatives offer additional interior, comfort, and convenience features including a powered panoramic sunroof, door mirrors with position memory, leather seats with seat memory, eight-way power adjustable and power lumbar support seats, a bigger nine-inch SDA with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as well as built-in navigation.

The new top-of-the-range model badged Exceed boasts additional creature comforts in the form of a smartphone wireless charger, a BOSE Premium sound system with 10 speakers, multi around view monitor, door mirrors with position memory & reverse auto tilt and a pull-up sunshade which bolsters the already comprehensive level of standard specification.

“The expansion of the Outlander range will allow more South Africans to get behind the wheel of this exciting vehicle by offering exceptional value for money across a wider variety of models, fitted with the equipment that meets the exacting requirements of our modern customers,” adds Allison.
